With COVID-19 vaccine deployment on the horizon in the United States and already beginning in some countries, some optimistic experts are saying the worst of the pandemic may potentially be concluding in mid-2021. However, for now, viral numbers are at an all-time high and continuing to climb; just yesterday, December 7, the U.S. reported over 200,000 daily new COVID-19 cases. As we ride the worst wave of the virus yet, pandemic tracking and control is more important than ever.
PHII's director, Vivian Singletary, recently joined me on the podcast to share some insights into digital contact tracing as a tool for COVID-19 control, and to share some updates on how PHII collaborated on a new contact tracing API from Google and Apple. In the course of our conversation, Vivian also delved into the ethics of digital contact tracing, the future of pandemic preparedness, and the moment that the Black Lives Matter movement has experienced in 2020, and how the goals of the movement tie into public health.
